Harrow BMX Pump Track

We were invited to bid for the Harrow pump track building in 2019. Clark & Kent have undertaken several projects for the Access Sport charity over several years. Access Sport worked with Harrow Council to procure a new pump track and two-person BMX training straights with a start gate. Harrow Council place a big emphasis on health and safety, and Clark & Kent were chosen for three main reasons:

1. Three external National Health and safety accreditations from CHAS, Constructionline and Acclaim.
2. No notifiable incidents in our health and safety records.
3. The robustness of our core contract health and safety paperwork.

The ground for the Harrow pump track was broken in spring 2020 with limited scope due to the coronavirus pandemic. Clark & Kent agreed to no uplifted costs and restarted work four weeks after the lockdown period with all provisional measures in place.

Initial consultation and a fully bespoke design package for funding and planning were provided by Clark & Kent in-house, minimising downtime and shortening lead times. The 10-week programme included several constraints, such as working next to a railway line, working around trees, and restricted and sensitive access with vehicles entering the site on a public open space footpath.

Relevant traffic management was used along with the correct PPI (People Plant Interface), and the project was completed on time, on schedule and within budget to the original contract sum.

The scope of design works for the Harrow pump track included:

• User-group and community consultation engagement events.
• Designing and supply of drawing packages to assist with planning.
• Developing pre-construction information before works commence.

The construction stage included:

• Fencing and securing the site
• Installing relevant control measures, including pedestrian access, safety signage, and appropriate public information notices.
• Setting out with client and engineer.
• Tree protection and root protection measures.
• Marking and setting out.
• Site strip and clearance.
• Drainage works.
• Sub-base works.
• Tarmac surfacing works.
• Concrete works.
• Turf scheme.

Client expectations have been surpassed, and they have since engaged us on similar projects.
