In 2019 Clark & Kent Contractors won the tender to consult, design and construct a pump track and skatepark at Newhaven in East Sussex. We were asked to consult with residents, community groups and user groups over a new pump track, develop concept designs and produce 3D designs and plans to suit exact site requirements taking into consideration several adverse conditions.
The Newhaven pump track project value was around £230,000 plus VAT for the pump track and skatepark for Lewes District Council. The construction period was eight weeks. Our design team implemented the wishes of all aspects of the user group and developed a well-rounded design to cater for BMX, skaters, mountain bikers, incliners and scooter users. DDA compliance into viewing areas with all-ability upper section compromising of more rounded and spaced features on flat level rather than utilising the cascade of the ground.
Pump track construction included site clearance, measuring and marking out, importing material, and the shaping and compaction of material and sub-base. The track building project also required drainage works, Tarmac surfacing, line marking, a turfing scheme and the installation of signage. We also undertook to design and produce 3D packages for approval, a 12-month defects and maintenance package, a 10-year guarantee and organisation of the opening event and other promotional services.
For details of the skatepark project, see the Newhaven Skatepark page. We have since engaged in further contracts with the client following the success of the Newhaven project. Please don't hesitate to contact us for further information.

;Clark and Kent Contractors were commissioned by Lewes District Council for the design and build of a tarmac pump track and concrete skatepark in Newhaven. The site featured a difficult terrain, and the brief was to have a synergy between the two facilities allowing riders of all ages to use the facilities and flow between them. Working closely with the local user group, Clark and Kent produced a fantastic design that made the best use of the site and offered value for money. The team take pride in their work, is very efficient, and works very hard to achieve an exceptional end product. I would not hesitate to recommend them.
