Stoke Gifford Council gained funding and tendered for a specialist contractor to supply an updated cycling facility at Little Stoke Park near Bristol.
Clark & Kent Contractors won the work to remodel the existing modest-sized BMX track because they offered the most cost-efficient solution to the project and their unrivalled experience in delivering this facility style.
With the relevant health and safety accreditations in place, it was agreed that we would start by reshaping and adding features to the track before adding our Tarmac all-weather surface. This meant the track could be open to all types of users. The footprint gave a wide, flowing track that has proved very popular with local longboarders and rollerskate groups.
Working in challenging weather conditions and a large distance from the site access meant deep consideration for the plant person interface and site logistics in addition to the site clearance and importation of material. Work included shaping and compaction of material and sub-base, drainage works, Tarmac surfacing, line marking and a turf scheme.
Little Stoke is home to a large playing field with a 3G astroturf football pitch and sensory garden. The pump track makes a welcome addition with a modern, organic look and feel. The all-user multi-wheeled facility is a great asset to the very popular playing field.
As Clerk of Stoke Gifford Parish Council I was extremely pleased with the efficiency, timescales and quality of work the team provided. This project ran extremely smoothly (especially with the terrible weather they worked through). I cannot praise the team enough. The pump track has been an overwhelming success and enjoyed by many people in the parish. The only downfall is we need one twice as big now to accommodate all the users. Well done Clark and Kent, an excellent job. I would highly recommend this company to any other business considering a similar project.
