Stoops Skatepark, Burnley

Clark and Kent Contractors were chosen to design and build the Stoops wheeled sports area in Burnley because of the high quality of their construction work, cost efficiency and their design and consultation expertise.

The Stoops skatepark scheme has given youngsters and skaters in a deprived community the opportunity to enjoy positive active engagement and promote a sense of community. Working with local police and social support groups, bespoke designs were produced to best fit the unusual footprint available for development. Several ongoing public consultations took place to develop final designs and to ensure user satisfaction.

After skatepark plans were submitted and approved construction work began in thesummer of 2019 with a number of items ordered in advance to ensure a swift and efficient delivery of the project. The Burnley was complete on time and on budget and included the relocation of existing street furniture, a comprehensive surface water drainage scheme and the resurfacing of a large Tarmac access area.

Following a public tender exercise Clark and Kent Contractors were chosen for the design and build of Stoops wheeled sports area. The tender was evaluated on 4 main criteria; Quality, Cost efficiency, Design and Consultation.

This scheme was to ultimately give local youngsters and skaters in the deprived community the opportunity to enjoy positive active engagement and a sense of community.

Working with local police and social support groups, bespoke designs were produced to best fit the unusual footprint available for development whilst reducing crime and anti social behaviour. Several ongoing public consultations took place to develop final designs and to ensure user buy in. On completion of this stage with plans submitted and approved Construction stage could begin.

The construction of the project took place through summer 2019 with a number of items ordered in advance to ensure a swift and efficient delivery of the project. The project was complete on time and on budget and also included relocation of existing street furniture, comprehensive surface water drainage scheme and resurfacing of large tarmac access area.
