Clark & Kent was invited to tender for the Telford skatepark in 2019 and selected to construct the facility in 2020. Telford Council places great emphasis on health and safety, and the tender included external national health and safety accreditation from CHAS, Constructionline and Acclaim. Clark & Kent has an excellent health and safety record and is recognised for the robustness of its core contract health and safety paperwork.
The ground was broken in late October 2020, construction of the Woodside skatepark at Telford was completed, and RoSPA was approved in December 2020. Initial consultation was undertaken, and Clark & Kent provided an in-house fully bespoke design package for funding and planning, minimising downtime and decreasing lead times.
The skatepark construction work involved several constraints, including working next to an existing MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area), working around trees and restricted and sensitive access issues, including vehicles entering the site on a public open space footpath. Relevant traffic management was used, and the project was completed on time, on schedule, and within budget compared to the original contract sum.
The skatepark project included hosting user-group and community consultation events, designing and supplying drawings for planning purposes, and developing pre-construction information. Pre-construction work involved fencing and securing the site, installing control measures for pedestrian access, erecting safety signage, and protecting trees and roots. Building work included a site strip and clearance, drainage, sub-base, concreting, and a turfing scheme. The client's expectations were surpassed, and they have engaged us on similar projects.
