Clark & Kent Contractors joined the team to build the venue for the 2012 BMX World Championships hosted at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, UK.
Clark & Kent staff worked with key people from British Cycling (BC) and Grant White, the BC National BMX Squad's head coach, to complete the ambitious project. In a week, we implemented the design for building the BMX Supercross (SX) track on Birmingham's National Indoor Arena floor.
Conventional building methods went out the window due to the nature of the project and the restricted timescale. Other challenging issues for Clark & Kent included such problems as the ground weight allowed by the indoor floor. Clark & Kent Contractors overcame all the issues, and the track was delivered on time, which proved to be a great success for British cycling.
After riding the finished product, Sam Willoughby, 2012 Elite Men World Champion, said he felt Clark & Kent should build all World Cup BMX tracks in the future. We were very proud that British Cycling, Birmingham City Council and the UCI agreed we surpassed expectations given the space available and the short timescale for this major BMX Supercross (SX) track-building project.
