Cumbernauld BMX Pump Track
The pump track is part of an international-standard BMX facility situated at Broadwood Stadium, Cumbernauld, in Scotland. The Cumbernauld track was constructed as part of the full-size BMX track and is intended to provide local riders with a fully equipped training facility at this world-class BMX track.
We were invited to tender for the project, and the selection took into account our three external National Health and Safety accreditations and our CHAS, Constructionline and Acclaim certificates. The pump track was carefully integrated into the overall BMX complex and features a tarmac surface, sub-base engineering, drainage solutions, fencing, pedestrian access, safety signage, and tree/root protection.
Work on track building included a full site strip and clearance, sub-base work, tarmac surfacing work, concreting, drainage works, and a turfing scheme. The new pump track project was put in place alongside the full-size BMX track that took up most of the 12 weeks of build time.
The full BMX site includes 5-metre and 3-metre start hills and Bensink-style start gates; the pump track acts as a complementary training component within this advanced cycling infrastructure. The complex is home to the Cumbernauld Centurions BMX Race Club, and the track is the only national-standard BMX facility in Scotland. It's operated by North Lanarkshire Leisure (NLL) and available through club sessions or public inductions/bookings.
The complex is classed as top-tier design as a "world-class BMX facility" that pairs high-performance racing infrastructure with beginner-friendly training zones. The presence of a full-size race track, start hills with gates, and a pump track makes it rare in Scotland and valuable for skill development. As a home base to a dedicated BMX club, it supports both grassroots engagement and national-level racing.
