Clark & Kent Contractors designed and built the new state-of-the-art pump track at Riverside Park in Glenrothes, Scotland, as part of a major £5 million regeneration scheme led by Fife Council. This inclusive, high-performance wheeled sports facility measures 125m x 60m and is designed for BMX, mountain bikes, scooters, skateboards, and other wheeled vehicles, supporting competition-level usage. Its design caters to riders of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced users, with integrated progression loops and varied terrain.

The pump track is one of several improvements to Riverside Park, including upgraded pathways, play areas, extensive planting, toilet facilities, resurfaced car parks, and enhanced connectivity. Accessible paths link the track to existing pedestrian and cycle networks, ensuring usability for all abilities.

Clark & Kent's in-house design team crafted the track's layout and features to meet performance, safety, and aesthetic criteria. They collaborated closely with Fife Council, community stakeholders, and the "Friends of Riverside Park" to ensure the facility met user needs, environmental considerations, and site constraints.

The pump track build encompassed ground works, drainage, surfacing, safety signage, and integration with the surrounding park landscaping. Emphasising durability, maintenance-friendly materials, and quality finishes ensures the track's longevity. The facility meets all relevant safety standards, including audited designs and inspections, and complies with local regulations.

The track provides a new active outdoor space, encouraging physical activity and fostering community interaction. As a key feature of the Riverside Park improvements, the pump track attracts both visitors and locals, enhancing Glenrothes as a recreation and event destination. Improved pedestrian and cycle links provide safer and easier access, promoting walking, cycling, and outdoor activity. The track's robust design, construction standards, and durable materials ensure long-term value and minimise maintenance costs.

Challenges addressed included: balancing performance and accessibility through varied difficulty loops and smooth transitions; integrating with existing topography, trees, and paths while maintaining environmental and usage goals; and ensuring user safety and durability with weather-resistant materials and robust surfacing and drainage. The project timeline encompassed planning and community consultation, design and engineering, construction, and handover and opening. Clark & Kent Contractors provided complete design and build services, collaborating closely with local authorities throughout.

Riverside Park spans 52 hectares (128 acres) and follows the valley of the River Leven. It includes woodland, formal gardens, play areas, and now the new pump track. A major £5m regeneration project was overseen by Fife Council with the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund support.
