Clark & Kent Contractors delivered a bespoke tarmac pump track in Great Harwood, Lancashire, a modern, all-weather facility designed for BMX bikes, scooters, skateboards, and rollerblades. It was constructed on the site of the former skatepark at the Game Street car park. The track is located next to a multi-use games area and replaces the old skatepark, which was removed after reaching the end of its serviceable life.
The circular track is designed for cycling and wheeled sports, offering a safe and engaging space for children, young people, and the wider community to ride and develop their skills. The facility is accessible to riders of all abilities, making it inclusive for everyone. Built to serve the local community, the track has evolved into a vibrant outdoor space that promotes active lifestyles, social engagement, and accessible wheeled sports for riders of all ages.

Community and funding

The project was delivered through a partnership led by Hyndburn Borough Council, with support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Lancashire County Council. Community demand was established through public consultation, and the track aims to promote physical activity while enhancing the area's appeal for both residents and visitors. The layout was custom-designed to suit the space available at the park while maximising rider experience. Features include a mix of smooth rollers and fast bermed turns, allowing users to "pump" through the course without pedalling. The tarmac surface provides a low-maintenance, weather-resistant solution suitable for high-traffic use in all seasons.

Built for the community

As part of a broader improvement initiative in Great Harwood, the site features a 75-metre mural inspired by the town’s past, present, and future. This was developed in collaboration with local artists and community groups, adding character and pride to the facility and adjacent car park. From the start, this track was designed with community needs at its core. Since opening, it has seen fantastic use by residents, schools, and young people. It's a free-to-use space that offers a healthy, inclusive, and social alternative to traditional sports.
