Gravesend Cyclopark BMX Track, Kent

The BMX track features a five-metre start hill and a Bensink eight-man safety gate. The design also includes pro-straights, extensive drainage and – a first in the UK – an innovative split-height first turn. Other features incorporated into the track design are typical multi-level third and fourth straights, comprehensive spectator areas and an extensive tarmac pens area.

The track has been used for Southern Regional Championship BMX races and attracts international BMX race events in a design and build process. Several countries used the facility in training for the London 2012 Olympic Games, including the USA team, which used it as their primary race training track.

Facilities at the BMX venue include a race smooth tarmac 2.9km floodlit Cyclo-circuit, 6 km of Cyclo-terrain mountain bike trails and Cyclo-BMX track with its awesome 330 metres floodlit track "designed for BMX beginners to professional riders featuring obstacles that guarantee a thrilling ride".

Cyclopark is a registered charity that operates on behalf of Kent County Council and its partners. The centre offers coaching resources from fun riding through to competing as an athlete. The multi-sports activity venue provides first-class cycling, BMX, skateboarding, running and extreme sports set amongst 43 hectares of landscaped parkland.

The Cyclopark is also a base for local sports clubs and offers facilities and support to develop cycling both as a sport and for exercise. Located near Gravesend, within easy access to the M25 and A2, Cyclopark provides the ideal venue for a family day out.

Client comment:

Clark & Kent were selected for the contract due to their high reputation for building top-quality BMX tracks. After working with them on the contract, it is clear why they have built up such a reputation . . . The best form of reference I can give is to say, if I have the chance to build another BMX track, Clark & Kent will be building it.
