Olympic Park BMX Track London

After the London 2012 Games, the Olympic BMX track, the Velodrome, a new road circuit and a mountain bike course were reshaped or built from the cycling hub managed by the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority.

The Olympic legacy BMX track is a modified and scaled-down version of the London 2012 track and is open all year round. The BMX track is located next to the velodrome north of the Olympic Park and was re-purposed for public use after the Olympic Games.

A 14-week project saw Clark & Kent Contractors undertake a list of specialist BMX track construction activities at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park that included:

The removal of concrete fixtures & fittings.
The replacement of hard and soft landscaped areas.
A remodelling of 50,000 cubic metres of the base material.
The installation of a comprehensive drainage scheme.
The excavation and installation of ducting to service the track.
The supply and installation of the starting gate system.
Sub-base construction and compaction with the finished unbound surfacing.
The application of asphalt surfacing.
The completion of a bespoke landscaping and planting scheme.

These elements, tied in with all the supporting infrastructure supplied by other contractors, have created a unique facility that has proved a great success for London and the UK. It was a pleasure for Clark & Kent to have the opportunity to install the Olympic legacy BMX track in such a fantastic setting.

Clark & Kent Contractors undertook a massive contract under the supervision of civil engineering firm Bam Nutall at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on the most significant construction site ever seen in the UK. Although it was a heart-wrenching experience for Clark & Kent to dismantle possibly the most outstanding BMX track the world has ever seen, it was fantastic to be able to rebuild the track so that the public could enjoy it to the full.
