Huyton BMX Track, Liverpool

Work was carried out in a two-phase construction period for builders Balfour Beatty in conjunction with Knowsley Council. The overall build time for this ambitious project was just eight weeks.

Located at the Huyton Leisure Centre in Liverpool, the BMX track is open seven days a week (weather permitting) with dedicated sessions for the public, schools, and BMX bike clubs. The BMX track can be found in the centre of the 400-metre velodrome.

There are dedicated sessions for the public, schools and clubs and the BMX track can be enjoyed by complete novices to the most experienced cyclists. The track attracts more than 10,000 users every year and hosts local, regional and national cycling events. Knowsley BMX club is one of many clubs based at the new facility.

A national standard Huyton BMX track within a velodrome, the Huyton BMX track is the first of its kind in the UK and only the second in the whole of Europe.
The BMX track at Huyton is constructed within a tarmac 400-metre outdoor velodrome. It
incorporates a 160-metre pump yrack for learners and beginner riders. Other services include extensive power and water points, a Bensink starting gate, a BMX rider pens area, and a tarmac area reserved for the Velodrome riders.
