Clark & Kent Contractors helped design and build the Newton Stewart bike and scooter track project in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.
From an initial site visit and proposal in 2016, a seed was sown, and since then, the project developed into a 4-man race track with several associated works to complement Douglas park.In 2018 the funding was secured and the years of planning came to fruition with the project finally getting started. Clark & Kent Contractors were appointed as the principal contractor to look after all elements of work in the park.
We aimed to provide a safe, fun, and challenging track for all levels of BMX riders, cruiser riders, and mountain bike riders alike. Also, a track that could hold some informal races would be a great benefit to the community. Hence, we installed a Pro Start starting gate system with handrails, steps and all the necessary equipment to be easily operational by the riders and local community alike.
In addition to the trackwork, typical C&K spec, we took care of several additional items simultaneously with the track build. These included a spectator perimeter fencing scheme to ensure that spectators kept a safe distance away from the edge of the tracks and give the track a very professional and competition style feel. A 200m tarmac footpath was included, and a 900m gravel car park and drainage scheme. Additional fencing and gates were also utilised to give the whole park a complete refresh and become a community asset again.
Finally, we presented the community with 10 professional standard BMX bikes, five children sizes and five adult sizes to give all community members the chance to explore and enjoy the newly constructed facility. Each bike came with a helmet so that people could practice the provision not only sensibly but safely as well. The soft opening event was a great success and allowed the community to get on the new facility ahead of the official opening. The track was extremely well received by all users, councillors and most importantly, the community.
